Daylight Saving Time Isn't Observed in These U.S. States, Territories That Don’t ‘Fall Back’
Daylight Saving Time Ends
On Sunday, at 2 a.m. the majority of the U.S. will turn the clocks back one hour as Daylight Saving Time ends for the year. However, some U.S. states and territories do not observe Daylight Saving Time. For them, this change doesn't occur.
Generally, the start time change happens the second Sunday in March at 2 a.m. local time. The conclusion of DST is the first Sunday in November.
When Daylight Saving Time ends, it gets dark earlier in the evening. However, sunrise is later in the morning.
States That Don’t Observe Daylight Saving Time
Arizona
In 1968, Arizona voters voted to end Daylight Saving Time. However, it was repealed in 1973. Once again, in 1983, Arizona voters rejected Daylight Saving Time. The Navajo Nation does observe Daylight Saving Time leaving most of the state on MST during summer months.
Hawaii
Hawaii doesn’t observe Daylight Saving Time because the state doesn’t see a significant change in daylight hours throughout the year due to its location near the equator.
Territories
American Samoa
American Samoa does not observe Daylight Saving Time because it is located in the Southern Hemisphere.
Guam
Guam does not observe Daylight Saving Time because it is located near the equator and doesn’t experience significant changes in daylight hours throughout the year.
Northern Mariana Islands
The Northern Mariana Islands do not observe Daylight Saving Time because they are located near the equator and don’t experience significant changes in daylight hours throughout the year.
Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico does not observe Daylight Saving Time because it is located near the equator and doesn’t experience significant changes in daylight hours throughout the year.
U.S. Virgin Islands
The U.S. Virgin Islands do not observe Daylight Saving Time because they are located near the equator and don’t experience significant changes in daylight hours throughout the year.
