Liverpool's bid for the Premier League title received a significant boost as they staged an astonishing comeback to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds found themselves trailing 3-1 with just minutes remaining, but two stoppage-time goals, including a dramatic winner from substitute Diogo Jota, secured a thrilling victory.
Tottenham had taken the lead through Rodrigo Bentancur, before goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah brought Liverpool level. Son Heung-min then restored Tottenham's advantage with a stunning strike, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg made it 3-1 with a powerful header.
However, Liverpool refused to give up, and Andy Robertson pulled one back with a fine finish in the 79th minute. Substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold then equalized in the first minute of added time, setting the stage for Jota's dramatic winner.
The win takes Liverpool three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, although the latter have a game in hand. Tottenham remain in eighth place, but their hopes of securing a top-four finish have been dealt a blow.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hailed his team's fighting spirit following the victory. "It was an incredible game," he said. "We showed great character and determination to come back from behind and win. Tottenham are a very good side, but we never gave up and we deserved the three points."
