How to Remove Acrylic Nails with Acetone and Tools
Introduction
Acrylic nails are a popular choice for those who want to achieve a long-lasting and glamorous look for their nails. However, when it comes to removing them, it's not as simple as peeling them off. Acrylics require specific techniques and tools to remove them safely without damaging your natural nails.
Essential Tools and Materials
Before you begin, you'll need the following tools and materials:
- 100% pure acetone
- Soaking tray or bowl
- Nail file
- Orangewood stick or cuticle pusher
- Cotton balls or pads
- Petroleum jelly
Step-by-Step Removal Process
Step 1: Soak Your Nails in Acetone
Fill a soaking tray or bowl with 100% pure acetone. Dip your nails into the acetone and soak them for 5 minutes. The acetone will start to dissolve the acrylic.
Step 2: Use a Nail File
After 5 minutes of soaking, take your nails out of the acetone and use a nail file to gently file away the top layer of the acrylic. This will help the acetone penetrate deeper into the acrylic.
Step 3: Push Off Acrylic with Orangewood Stick
Dip an orangewood stick or cuticle pusher into the acetone and gently push under the loosened acrylic. Start from the cuticle area and work your way towards the free edge. The acrylic should start to come off in pieces.
Step 4: Soak and Scrape Again
Repeat steps 1-3 until all of the acrylic has been removed. You may need to soak your nails for longer periods or file more to remove stubborn pieces.
Step 5: Remove Residue
Once the acrylic has been removed, use a cotton ball or pad dipped in acetone to remove any remaining residue. Apply petroleum jelly to your nails and cuticles to hydrate them after the removal process.
